Sounds of Tokyo

On our recent visit to Tokyo to see in the New Year, I recorded a few short audio clips on my phone. They make for pleasing vignettes of a city which is well known for being visually over-stimulating to the western-eye, but until you’ve visited it’s difficult to imagine that this overstimulation is perhaps even more pronounced from a sound perspective. That being said, there are moments of quiet, and moments of blissful sound to be found across the city.

1. Approaching Yurakucho Station on the Yamanote Line

2. Fourplay at The Blue Note

3. Descending from the observation deck at Tokyo Tower

4. New Year Prayers at Zōjō-ji

5. Wandering around Shimokitazawa
